A Heartfelt Homecoming: Photographing a Wedding Close to My Roots
As a York Wedding Photographer, every wedding I capture has a special story. But Victoria and Rob’s big day at The Parsonage Hotel & Spa in Escrick was extra special for me, because it felt like coming home.
When Victoria first got in touch about her wedding, it brought back a wave of memories. We grew up in the same village and went to the same school, just a few years apart. Being asked to photograph her wedding felt like such a full-circle moment, a real privilege to return to the place where I spent so many of my own childhood.
The day began with a heartfelt ceremony at St Helen’s Church in Escrick. It’s a beautiful, historic church and the perfect setting for Victoria and Rob to say their vows in front of family and friends. After the “I dos” and confetti toss, it was just a short stroll down the lane to their reception venue, the stunning Parsonage Hotel & Spa.
A Reception Full of Laughter, Love… and Football
The Parsonage Hotel is a gem of a wedding venue. It has elegant spaces, gorgeous grounds, and a relaxed vibe that makes everyone feel at home. The team there always makes sure things run smoothly, and this wedding was no exception.
Rob, the groom, is a massive football fan, and as luck would have it, England had a big match that same evening. After the wedding breakfast, Rob took a quick breather to watch the game, and what a game it was! England made it through to the Euros final, and the cheer from the bar could probably be heard back at the church.
An Epic Party to Remember
With spirits high, the celebrations kicked off in style. The DJ got everyone on their feet, and when “Three Lions” was played, the dance floor absolutely erupted. Friends and family danced the night away, and it was one of those rare weddings where joy and emotion filled every corner of the room.
