Mikaela & Mark’s Romantic Engagement Shoot.

There’s something so special about an engagement photoshoot – it’s a relaxed and fun way to capture the love between two people before their big day. When Mikaela and Mark asked me to photograph their engagement session, I was absolutely thrilled. As a York wedding photographer, I love getting to know my couples before the wedding, and an engagement shoot is the perfect opportunity to do just that!

We chose the stunning grounds of Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre, nestled on the outskirts of Pocklington, for their session. If you’ve never been, it’s an absolute hidden gem – peaceful gardens, scenic woodlands, and gorgeous historic architecture. It made the perfect backdrop for Mikaela and Mark’s York engagement photography session.

A Relaxed & Natural Engagement Shoot

Mikaela and Mark wanted their engagement photos to feel relaxed and natural, which is exactly how I like to work. We started our shoot by wandering through the tree-lined paths, where the golden evening light filtered beautifully through the leaves. These two were naturals in front of the camera – laughing, chatting, and simply enjoying the moment together.

One of my favourite shots from the day was taken in front of the historic manor house, where the combination of soft greenery and warm stone created a timeless, romantic feel. Mikaela’s laughter was infectious, and Mark’s adoring glances said everything about how much he loves her.

Why Engagement Shoots Are So Important

Engagement shoots are a fantastic way to shake off any camera nerves before the wedding day. It’s a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera, and for us to build that trust and connection ahead of the big day. By the end of the shoot, Mikaela and Mark felt so much more at ease, and I just know their wedding photos will be absolutely stunning!
