Take a sneak peek behind the scenes at a YouTube star’s wedding day
I was very excited to be the man behind the camera at the recent wedding of YouTuber Danny Malin and Sophie Mei Lan (otherwise known as Mr and Mrs Yorkshire).
You may know Danny from his popular social media and YouTube, where he’s taken to travelling the UK rating takeaways recommended to him by his followers. He’s also been seen on both Channel 4 and Channel 5.
Sophie (the now Mrs Yorkshire) is a journalist, radio presenter and was most recently featured on our screens on Britain’s Got Talent as a belly dancer. The two found love and wanted to make a mark with a wedding befitting of ‘Mr and Mrs Yorkshire’.
Getting started
I was lucky to be introduced to Danny and Sophie through ‘The York Wedding Suppliers’. After successfully pitching to the future Mr and Mrs Yorkshire, they decided we would work well together and entrusted me to capture their special day.
And I had two months to make their vision a reality.
An engagement to remember
I knew I wanted to capture something special for a brilliant couple.
For Harry Potter lover, Danny, York was the perfect place to shoot some beautiful engagement photos, full of historical, whimsical charm. Starting in the iconic Shambles, we moved to the minster and the historic city walls.
The big day
I was pleased to be able to use my background in graphic design to go above and beyond photographing the day. Danny and Sophie trusted me with creating bespoke wedding signs, selfie frames and backdrops to mark the big day. In addition, I created a mock newspaper celebrating the news of the couple (it’s a local legend after all!)
The ceremony at Leeds Minster was absolutely beautiful. You can see how happy the couple are in the special moments captured on camera.
Among the guests were author of Man Vs. Baby, Matt Coyne, ITV’s Christine Talbot, DJ Stephanie Hurst and YouTube’s Alfie Odd Job.
It couldn’t have been more of a celebration of all things Yorkshire. From the white, green and yellow theme (an ode to the Yorkshire Rose) to the Mr and Mrs Yorkshire themed cocktails, it really was the perfect day for a perfect match.
The morning after the night before
I want to take the time to thank Danny and Sophie for trusting me with their special day. It was seriously one to remember.
I’m incredibly proud that the images have now been featured in local and national newspapers, on various YouTube channels and Danny and Sophie’s combined 20,000 strong social media following.
